As chief accounting officer, Mike Smith plays a critical role in developing and managing the financial and accounting operations of loanDepot.
Before joining the company, Smith was a senior vice president and chief accounting officer for commercial lender CapitalSource Inc., which had 21 retail bank branches in California and conducted loan originations nationwide.
Prior to CapitalSource, Smith served as the chief accounting officer of Fremont Investment & Loan and worked in public accounting with Deloitte and Grant Thornton.
Smith speaks Japanese, and he began his career in Deloitte’s Japanese Practice Unit, auditing the subsidiaries of Japanese companies located in the United States.
He concurrently earned his bachelor and master degrees in accountancy from Brigham Young University in 1992. Smith became a certified public accountant in California in 1996, a certified management accountant in 1997 and a chartered global management accountant in 2012.
He is a member of BYU Marriott School’s Undergraduate Management Advisory Board and the Finance Committee of Taller San Jose, a nonprofit group helping troubled youth in Santa Ana, CA.
